I graduated from Shenandoah University with a B.F.A in Musical Theater and since then, I have been working regionally and in New York City doing theater. I have melded my love of the arts and my love for teaching children since graduating from college. I grew up in North Carolina and I am one of three kids. Using my imagination and playing was something that was instilled in my siblings and I growing up. I have been fortunate enough to be able to teach Shakespeare workshops for elementary to high school students and I also teach a music theater at Shuffles in NYC. I have been working with children for about ten years. While working as a babysitter I have tackled the roles of princess, pirate, and expert fort builder. I love incorporating my artistry while working with children. One of my favorite activities to do with kids is to build a fort. Then depending on the child’s personality we can either play a game where we have to defend the fort, dragons and princess’s, hide and seek in the fort, or we can have a reading nook. I love to sit inside of a fort with kids reading and making up stories!
Aside from performing I love reading, arts and crafts, exploring, hiking, seeing great theater and making music. One of my favorite things about living in New York is that when I have time off, I can go explore a new museum or library and there is always something new. I find a lot of joy in combining my love of playing and crafting with my love of teaching when babysitting. As a sitter, I find that it is important not only to entertain but to engage the children I work with. It is my hope that after each session, both the children and I come away with new skills and memories. I believe that the arts help children to embrace their potential. I also love that as a caregiver, I can provide them with skills that build their confidence, problem solving skills, and imaginations.

I am a big advocate for arts and crafts time. I am a little obsessed with construction paper and its many uses. I love making puppets with construction paper, then putting on a play. I also love to use crayons to make a homemade etch-a-sketch. I also really enjoy making books with kids. I staple together a few pieces of paper, we draw pictures, and then narrate the story. This is a great activity for all ages but it is a great learning opportunity for kids who are working on their language arts skills. I love getting to help them form sentences, work on their spelling, and put their ideas down on paper. Some of the most creative stories I’ve ever read have been stories that have come from children I’ve watched. I love playing pretend, writing song, building forts, pirate ships, and all around having awesome imaginary adventures. I also enjoy cooking and doing science experiments like making home made play dough. There are many different activities I love to do, most of them involve playing and being silly. I love that no matter how many games I have in my arsenal the kids that I am watching will always add more.
