My babysitting career began at the ripe old age of 12, taking care of my newborn little brother in Athens, Georgia. From there, I babysat for friends of the family and assisted as a camp counselor through high school, working my way up to a counselor position and finally a Camp Director during my early college years. In my later summers of college in St. Louis, I became a nanny and had summers full of sunscreen, Marco Polo swimming adventures, nature scavenger hunts, board games in the basement and craft projects involving pipe cleaners and googley eyes. After college, I became a full-time nanny in San Francisco, working extensively with two amazing little girls and seeing them pass through their infancy into toddler stages. I have worked with two other agencies in the past as an on-call care provider, done freelance babysitting for several families, and have experience with traveling, overnight stays, housekeeping and personal assisting tasks.
Philosophically, it is my goal to help instill in children a love and appreciation for the arts, in all forms. I highly value reading aloud to kids (and babies!), fostering creativity, singing, frequent trips to the library or museum, cooking, arts & crafts, the importance of play, and spending time getting fresh air outside at the park. In my “grown-up” life, I’m pursuing a career as a theatre director. I have a particular interest in new and experimental work, which has led me to the downtown New York theatre scene. I’ve seen about 70 plays in the last 9 months and am a passionate “culture vulture.” I love literature (lately, Joan Didion & David Foster Wallace), film, museums, old diners, good coffee and wandering around The Strand. I’m a sugar-free pescaterian and enjoy doing yoga and the exercise program Bar Method. I value travel (favorite trips include Dublin and Krakow), but am madly in love with New York City and plan to be here for a long while.
