I believe that kids represent everything that the world needs more of and as a result, I resolve to surround myself with more of their honesty, innocence, and carefree nature as opposed to giving into the stressful atmosphere of New York. I believe that in order to preserve these amazing qualities in children, we, as caretakers must act as examples because no matter what their age, they are always watching and observing, even when we don’t know it. The most important aspect of being a babysitter, nanny, or parent is to represent the people we would like to see children grow up to be. I do my best on a daily basis to stay calm, be kind, eat well, practice honesty, reduce negativity, stay active, be safe, and have fun and when I am with kids, I am extra-aware of the things I say, do, and eat because I know they will mimic me.
I babysat all through high school and when I started college, worked with children through organizations like Forward Edge, World Vision, and The New York Coalition for Healthy School Food, and currently watch two boys a few days a month, but I’d like to be more involved with children for all of the reasons I listed above.
