Throughout my life, I have had opportunities to nurture relationships with children through work settings but mostly in building lasting relationships with their families. For seven summers in a row before moving to New York, I was involved with a summer day camp for kids. This camp was affiliated with a church in Savannah, GA and was open to children from ages 5 to 12. Through this experience, I was able to be a part of and witness the lives of many kids from a very early age and see them grow into fine young kids. I was also able developing lasting relationships with their parents. This gave me the privilege of being a part of some of these kids’ lives through high school and for some even into college.
When I am with children, I do my best to be a part of their growth whether it is in their understanding of their surroundings or in the way they deal with their emotions. I thrive in a situation where a child has questions about things and wants to learn. A child deep in thought is a wonderful sight for me and the conversations that ensue are often even better. Children can be a well-spring of profundity and experiencing that first hand is my favorite thing about spending time with kids.
