About Me

Teaching, caregiving, and creative expression have always worked hand-in-hand in my life and career. After graduating from college, I taught middle grades in an independent school where I used reading, creative and analytical writing, and drama in my classroom to help kids to discover new worlds and to ask big questions. Now, having made the transition to full-time writing, I continue to work as a freelance tutor for middle schoolers and script consultant for professional writers, helping people of all ages to discover and strengthen their voices.

I believe that, for all of us, the deepest learning is inquiry-based and experiential and that children’s creative play is essential to that process. As a caregiver, I work together with families to build enough structure and predictability so that kids feel secure and able to make choices. That way, we can dive together into the important work of play, asking questions, and exploring the world around us. I love working with children of all ages and with families to create a healthy, safe, and nurturing environment in which kids can stretch and thrive. In addition to writing, I enjoy hiking, yoga, making theatre, teasing cats, and bragging about Pittsburgh.

I have professional childcare experience with…

Infants, Toddlers, Pre-school aged children, Elementary school aged children, Middle school aged children
