I moved to New York for college, and to pursue musical theatre as a career, and I have been finding that having a job that I care about as much as my career makes my life significantly more enjoyable. Over the years since graduation, I have held jobs in a great number of fields, but none of them has ever been as rewarding as caring for small children. One of my favorite things is to share my knowledge of literature with the kids that I work with. I am an avid reader in many genres. I sing; play flute, piccolo, and recorder; play several different sports – and I have a good working knowledge of the ones I don’t actually play; and I am very much of the philosophy that TV is for when you’re too sick to even pick up a book, but imagination is much, much better for playtime.
I have been looking after small children ever since I was old enough to be left on my own. Children of all ages tend to flock towards me, and I revel in the opportunity to play, laugh, and learn with them. Since moving to the city, I have missed that interaction very much, and it’s why I enjoy babysitting as much as I do. Most recently, I have been watching the same young girl since she was a week and a half old (she recently turned 4), and it has been such a rewarding experience. Watching a child grow into themselves is like nothing else, and it is a process that I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of in some small way every time I babysit.
