The Ideal Sitter for this Job
The family is looking for someone who is active, creative, cheerful, loving and fun! Someone comfortable working as a team with a SAHM mom from time to time, yet who can take on the task of caring for both kids independently. Someone who is fairly adaptable and willing to learn the family's particular approach to praise and discipline. As the boy had some behavioral issues in preschool, they have worked with a behavioral psychologist to manage this and implement new skills and approaches. The techniques they learned continue to be extremely helpful with him and now interacting with our daughter as she matures and appropriately tests limits. They are looking for someone comfortable meeting with this psychologist for training (they other sitters all really enjoy it) and expect them to do their best to be consistent with this approach. An open and flexible approach is best as they learn the flow of the family. Someone willing to help prepare and clean up from meals for the kids, and help clean up the kid's toys and keep them organized. Someone who likes things tidy and organized is likely to be a better fit. Please note any experience you may have with ADHD or similar behavioral training.
The core schedule is Monday to Friday, from 12-7 PM. Flexibility to assist later in the evenings and on full days on occasion is a plus!

He is very inventive and likes creating car ramps, boats, and other fun toys out of boxes, paper and whatever else he can get his hands on! He's a lego lover. He likes sports. He's learning to read and loves to be read to! He has ADHD, takes medicine and it's helpful for him to have structure in the afternoons. During preschool he had some behavioral issues and they are working with a professional to tackle this (see below). Girl, age 3 - She's super sweet and loving. She is fearless and very silly! She likes to dress up, dance and play with her older brother! She's learning letters and counting. She has caught the princess fever. She loves ballet and walking around in a tutu. She naps in the afternoon. They get along really well!
The job would entail picking up the girl from school at 12 PM, bringing her home and feeding her lunch, and then taking her to after school activities every day (ballet, gymnastics, speech, etc.), hosting and organizing playdates, and playing and reading with her when there is downtime. On occasion mom may want to pick up the girl from school or take her to an activity. In these instances, the SmartSitter would be asked to run an errand, do the children's laundry, or start preparing dinner. The boy gets home at 4:45 PM, (two days per week) or 6 PM (three days per week, after extracurricular activities). Mom typically picks him up from school or the bus, however some days they might ask the SmartSitter to do this instead. In the evening from 5 PM onwards, the focus shifts towards getting both children bathed and fed, and the boy's homework completed. Mom will usually be home in the evenings, however as the SmartSitter gets into a groove they may on occasion have both children on their own.
The position will begin as soon as they find the right fit with interviews taking place starting next week.
