I grew up in the desert of Phoenix, Arizona, the middle child of a blended family. I fell in love with singing, dancing, and gymnastics and spent my childhood enjoying these activities. I went on to study Musical Theater in Philadelphia at the University of the Arts and received my Bachelor’s in Fine Arts. After college I worked as an actor around the country and then began studying yoga. I went to India and Nepal and became certified to teach and have since taught in NYC, Ghana, and Ecuador. I teach privately in the city right now.
I have been working with children in many forms since I was a child. Being the middle child of seven children, I was brought up by my siblings, and helped raised my younger ones. I spent most of my high school years babysitting neighborhood children (pre-k - 6th grade). I spent summers in high school teaching summer theater camps at local art centers (children ages 5 - 14). I spent summers of my college years performing at a summer resort in Maine, during the days I would help run the afternoon childcare program, (20 children, ages 5 - 18). I also spent those summers privately babysitting infants and toddlers. After high school, I had a consistent after school babysitting job with a family of two girls ages 4 and 7. Duties included picking the girls up from school in my car, providing a snack, homework help, dinner making, and putting the girls down for bed before the parents returned from their late night work. While in New York, I have been an after-school babysitter for a 4 year old pre-k boy. This job included picking him up from school, providing a snack, providing entertainment, helping him nap, and taking him to any appointments. I also have babysat for a family with a 2 year old boy and 7 year old girl. This family would bring me over occasionally whenever they needed help. This lasted for close to a year until they moved. I travelled with this family for ten days to Croatia and Montenegro and was on call 24/7 for any help the family needed while on the trip.
I’ve spent most of my life working with children to some capacity. Whether it be Theater Camps, Summer Camps, After School Care, or Nannying, and International Traveling Babysitting, I’ve worn many hats. Infants to teenagers, I’ve done it all. The phrase “children are the future” really resonates deeply with me. It reminds me that they are going to be the next creators of our world and that we are their teachers. I have felt deeply the desire to help children create a more loving and peaceful world for all of us. By working closely with them, I can help influence their minds, bodies, and souls. I’ve read that the first five years of a child’s life basically designs who they will essentially be for life. I believe if we really hone in on this and be mindful and loving when we raise our children, they can grow up to be outstanding beings of the world. I’d like to help them become these people!
