I am a Zimbabwean-South African writer with a background in education, community development and the arts (musical theatre, movement, film, arts and crafts). The later includes studying Arts therapy in London for a year.
I've always been passionate about childcare and education and have worked with youth for about15 years. During this time, I have resided and studied in South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Like many, I came to New York for graduate school and couldn’t seem to leave!
Over the years, I have nannied, taught and co-taught pre-school (including Montessori), summer high school and undergraduate creative writing. I have also instructed students with learning differences at a private prep school in Manhattan. Now, I nanny, and teach enrichment classes (ages 5-8) part time, while I work on creative projects.
I always come back to caregiving. I love how curious, funny, honest and creative children are. They keep me energized, uniquely engaged with the world, and I get immense satisfaction from contributing to a child's healthy and happy development.
Lastly, I'm a strong advocate for child-centered learning and imaginative play, and like many parents, I believe you are never to young to start building critical thinking skills and positive social interactions. I learned a great deal about helping students hone these skills as a teacher.
Some of the activities I enjoy sharing are: reading, making up stories together, playing games and singing songs, exploring the city, the great outdoors, and making art and craft projects galore!
