About me

Hello! My name is Imani and working with children is my absolute passion. Maria Montessori said, "Free the child's potential and you will transform him into the world." As a child that was taught to read at 3 years old I believe in this wholeheartedly. Within boundaries, children should be able to create, learn and grow in a way that feels natural to themselves. Self expression is such a strong tool whether it is through art, dance or even sports, passing that on to children is an excitement. Fun aside, working in a kindergarten in a public school setting has given me a hyper awareness of the necessity of safety and cleanliness in a child's environment and in your home would be no less. Fun and imagination are some of my favorite things to explore but organization is always something to remember. In my own home I only use organic cleaning supplies and try to keep everything right where it belongs, it just makes life easier.I understand work ethic and accountability and I always strive to present my best self and my best work, even more so when it comes to a young life. Working in a law firm has also taught me about deadlines, prioritization and leadership which are skills that easily cross over from the business world into the rest of life. You want your child's life to have structure and a strong model for them to lead by, I understand that and want to be both a friend, someone they can look up to and they can rely on.

I have professional child care experience with...

  • Toddlers
  • Preschoolers
  • School-aged (K-5)

I will be SmartSitting while...

In addition to reading, I enjoy doing art projects, baking, keeping a fun yoga and meditation practice and love NYC more than anything. I am a New Yorker myself, I have lived here my whole life and I adore all of the possibilities open to me. The Metropolitan Museum is my favorite place ever, closely followed by Central Park.I enjoy riding my bike and I've recently picked up ballet practice which I am very excited about.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

graduated from a Montessori program and working with children, whether it is in a school, daycare or in a private home as a Nanny. Working with children is my long term goal and desire. A babysitter is not just someone that drops by to watch your child watch t.v. but a teacher and an educator in their own right.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Story time is also my favorite time so I hope your child loves books! I began school at 2 1/2 years old and I was able to read by 3 partly because of my grandparents instruction while I was with them being "babysat". Combining reading comprehension with games and even cooking makes something that can be daunting loads of fun! I love encouraging creativity in a child, no matter what expression it's developed in be it art or dance.I love creating collage and painting and I would love the opportunity to explore this with your child. I have an extensive arts and crafts list in my head as well as a lengthy D.I.Y. game list. I really strive to bring that fun camp feeling to everyday life, why should you do those fun science experiments on "special days" at school, every day should be an experiment!
