I am a highly qualified professional with personal childcare experience from being a classroom teacher of 23 years, a teacher developer, a nanny, to being a parent of three young adults.
Over many years, I have had the privilege to work with children of all ages with their literacy development, along with teachers and administrators who, like me, believe that the only measure of effective instruction is the extent to which it improves the learning of every student. I regard myself primarily as a teacher at heart.
Upon retiring from teaching, I have also worked as an executive/author's assistant and as a children's author myself, continuing with my passion and love for enriching children's lives through literature and writing.
Children dream of being big enough and old enough and able enough to tame the Wild Things In reality those Wild Things could well devour them. Therefore we need to give them many tools with which to keep the real world at bay until they are ready for it. We give them teachers, we give them toys, we give them chants and prayers and cultural attitudes and surround them with family. We give them stories(~Jane Yolen).
I will be SmartSitting while...
Working on my writing as a children's author of mystical stories of adventure involving fairies, bumblebees, and yes, even a pet gnat and stinkbugs! I also thoroughly enjoy writing blogs, poems, and stories, reading books, theatre, music, the spirit of children, visiting my family, spending time in a bookstore, hot tea with good conversation, some travel, playing with my dog, and attending cultural events (museums, book fairs, seasonal activities).
In 5 years, I hope to be...
I would love to be part of a family, connected to a neighborhood, building relationships, and overall contributing to the betterment of everyone I meet.
In addition to that, I would love to see myself as a disciplined writer who has published one piece of work and has other pieces lined up for future publication as my way of further contributing to the world with outstanding children's literature that touches many hearts.
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
First and foremost, immersion in reading and writing activities with authentic links to the real world around them to build on their experiences, all in preparation for laying the foundation for growth and success in life.
Supporting a child's exploratory and creative nature through local outings, and integrating the arts to help stimulate meaningful personal expression and curiosity.
