My name is Irving Dyson Jr and I have had a passion for working with children since before I can remember. I consider working with children one of the most rewarding jobs I can think of.I am the youngest of seven sisters, and have always been surrounded by many nieces and nephews while growing up. While working with children, I’ve learned to truly use my imagination, I’ve learned tap into my resilience, and I’ve learned to laugh everyday.
I am graduate of Texas State University's acting program (class of 2014) and have experience working with kids/students from two to nineteen either as a nanny or a teacher. In the past, have worked for a family with up to four children whose ages ranged from one year old to eleven. Some of my day to day activities included, running errands, cleaning, cooking, and washing and taking the children to practices. I consider myself a very active sitter with a lot of energy. I love taking children to the park, to practices, to museums, and to plays.
During the past four years, I have also worked as a (RA) resident assistant, and a (TA) teacher's assistant for beginning acting, intermediate acting, and movement I/II at the university level. These two jobs definitely gave me the gift of patience and communication. Which is something that I feel is very important when dealing with another human being.
The summer before last, I had an opportunity to teach theatre at the Gathering Summer Program located in Southern Maryland. This program was specifically designed for children who come from low-income families, students who have trouble reading, and students with behavioral problems. This particular job allowed me to introduce the arts to children who have never been exposed to the performing arts. This past summer, I taught variety of theatre classes which included short form improv, theatre games, building a character, and tools for acting at Stage Door Manor which is listed as one of the top acting camps in the nation. When reading about this opening, I thought it would be a great opportunity to share my knowledge, my passion, and to get another chance to work with children while living in the city.
