PART-TIME: UES, $20-25/hr, MWF afternoons, with boy, 4, & girl, 7! kPTND2216

  • Ideal Nanny: Someone loving, fun, kind, responsible, and most importantly, communicative. The family is very open and honest, and in turn looking for someone who can reciprocate that. The younger boy can have a hard time adjusting to a new person and is learning to trust people more. The family is working with him to be respectful at all times, and a SmartSitter who knows when to be "the authority figure" and when to let kids be kids, will be best suited for them. Someone with a background in early childhood development/psychology/social work is ideal. They are looking for someone who can go with the flow as sometimes messes will get made and things will be out of place. The family is looking for someone comfortable and laid back with this style of parenting. The kids are at different ages and stages in life, have different school responsibilities, and energies, so they are looking for someone with the education background who understands differences between ages and what they need. Again, being open and communicative with parents about what is happening and how the SmartSitter is settling in with the kids is very important. Someone not afraid to get a little dirty and help them with science experiments, and who is going to treat them like little people rather than babies would be best. They are looking for someone to lead by example when it comes to being polite and being a good example. Being organized is essential.
  • Kids: I've included their parents description of them below because it was too darn cute!

girl, 7- She has a shy candy-coating but a fun, silly, and super artistic center. She can sit and draw, sketch, and create for hours. Be warned: If you engage her in a game of Mancala or cards, you will be playing for hours. She loves to read and bake, and her favorite playmate is her brother. She attends an all-girls school, which she loves, and where she is (and we are) learning the ups and downs of big-school life, from handling homework and time management to the difference between fun friends and true friends. She is a super girly girl, but she voraciously reads and watches Star Wars (the originals), boys books, and the like.

boy, 4- He is a pip. He is sweet, sensitive, whippet smart, and has more energy than an atom splitting. He does not appreciate being babied or smothered. Want to talk about space exploration, plants, bugs, cooking, etc? Want someone who's going to make you laugh until your stomach hurts? He's your guy. He is learning to be a better listener and to be a gentleman at all times. He is sporty and loves anything that is sports-related.

They are typical kids who have their best and worst moments. They love to put on shows together.
