Full Time Positions

A full-time nanny (30+ hours per week) is an experienced professional working in your home. Nannies work a set Monday through Friday schedule with some flexibility to come early or stay later, just like full-time positions in other fields. Set yourself up for success by providing industry-standard employment practices for your professional nanny

  • Guaranteed Hours: Your nanny is paid a minimum per week, even when you don't need them or you are away on vacation

  • Paid Time Off: Families typically provide a 2-week paid vacation. Up to 5 days of this vacation can be requested for the nanny's family trip, but this must be agreed upon during the hiring phase, with sufficient notice required to align with the family's trip

  • Overtime: After 40 hours or in accordance with local laws

  • Paid Holidays: Your nanny is paid for bank holidays even if they don't work. If they do work on a bank holiday, it's a nice gesture to consider paying them time and a half

  • Sick Days

Part Time Positions

A part-time nanny (less than 30 hours per week) is also a dedicated child care professional working in your home. Part-time nannies often have child-related experience such as teaching in classrooms or camps. Some have babysitting experience from college. Part-time nannies may be more flexible with
schedule modifications week to week. As part-time employees, it is even more important to structure these roles professionally in advance to ensure a healthy and lasting relationship

Taxes Explained

How you can work with your caregivers (who are W-2 employees!) to protect yourself through legal pay

  • Your caregiver’s W-2 designation is triggered by payment totals, where liabilities for taxes are incurred once thresholds of $1,000 per calendar quarter or $2,300 per calendar year are met

  • Compensating your caregiver legally offers short-term and long-term benefits, including protection through worker's compensation insurance in case of job-related injuries and access to unemployment insurance in the event of a layoff

  • Legal payment also ensures that your caregiver receives Social Security, Medicare, and Paid Sick Leave benefits while safeguarding you from unexpected IRS audits and tax penalties
