However, we see ourselves as more than an agency connecting you to great jobs. We have always thought of Smart Sitting as a network of brilliant childcare providers, believing that the standard of the industry grows with better support. Here are a few ways in which Smart Sitting goes beyond merely being a service that brings you from point A to point B. 

Community

We are nothing without our SmartSitters. This amazing group of experienced, professional, dedicated caregivers help their families all around the country, yes, but they also help each other. We believe that by encouraging an exchange of ideas and support, the group goes from individual professionals to a community of sitters and nannies. 

Since our founding, we have hosted meetups and workshops, where SmartSitters can meet and just socialize, or have the opportunity to learn more about the industry. The pandemic put a bit of a halt on our ability to meet up in person, but we hope to soon be up and running with new events, and Q&As with our experienced team members. In our dedicated Facebook group, SmartSitters also ask each other for advice, share fun information - and look for roommates or rent out their rooms. 

Conflict Support and Expert Advice

Once you have booked your job (yay!) and started with your new, great family, we do not disappear out of your life! In any job, questions or conflicts may come up and when you’re working without colleagues or an HR department to turn to, it can be hard to navigate even minor issues yourself. 

But as a member of Smart Sitting, you continue to be a valued part of the group, and our dedicated team and their expertise are always available to you. Wondering how to ask for a raise? We got you. Have a question about scope creep or travel requests? We know all about it. Whatever you’re experiencing on the job, we can walk you through industry standards, give examples of how other SmartSitters have successfully navigated it before you, or just lend a listening ear. This way, you are not alone in working through your questions, and you and the family are more likely to reach a great solution that works for everyone. 

Opportunities for Short-term or Fill-in Work

Another great benefit of being in the network is that if you find yourself with extra time you can round out your income with short-term and fill-in work. This is popular among our creative SmartSitters, for instance, who may have periods of shows and tours or who book work around their audition schedules. 

While we have significantly altered our one-off “temp” bookings during the pandemic (and stay tuned for new, exciting developments up ahead!), there are still great opportunities available for more flexible work. Some families are looking for consistent help during a limited amount of time, for instance when their regular nanny is on vacation. Other families take in SmartSitters as part of our backup care partnership with Bright Horizons, where you can easily book plenty of work at schedules that suit you. This is also a great way for sitters new to New York to get a sense of different neighborhoods, or for nannies looking for long-term work to get a steady income while looking for that perfect match with a family.
