Smart Sitting and COVID-19: How to Stay Safe!

PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING

We ask that all SmartSitters adhere strictly to CDC guidelines to protect themselves from COVID-19. This includes washing your hands often, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, maintaining 6 feet from anyone outside of your household, and wearing a mask at all times when out in public where social distancing may be more difficult.

CONNECT WITH THE FAMILY

Make sure that your personal safety practices align with that of the family you are working for, and make sure to ask if they have any specific requests to help them adhere to the guidelines set In their home. If your practices are not in line with the family you will be working with, you may be asked to self-quarantine before taking a position.

CALL THE FAMILY IF YOU ARE FEELING UNWELL

If you are not feeling well, please contact us and the family immediately and let them know. Because of the contagious nature of COVID-19, it is better to communicate your health status, any known exposure to anyone who has tested positive, or if you are experiencing any symptoms to the family rather than to risk exposing others. Don't take any chances when it comes to your health and that of those you work with!

CONFIRM YOUR TEMPERATURE BEFORE LEAVING FOR WORK

If you have access to a thermometer, take your temperature before leaving home. 98.6 degrees is the normal body temperature for a healthy person.

SMELL CHECK BEFORE YOU GO

Did you know that in many cases, loss of smell is an early sign of COVID that goes unnoticed until other symptoms appear? Smell some orange juice or a scented candle and make sure your senses are still functioning as you’d expect them to before heading off to babysit.

AVOID CROWDED COMMUTES

When possible, accept jobs accessible by walking or cycling. Stay clear of crowded train platforms, train cars, and buses. Use your own vehicle if you have one. If a family is providing a rideshare, SmartSitters should still wear face masks in the vehicle.

WEAR A MASK IN PUBLIC

When going outside of your home, wear a mask and cover your nose and mouth.

LEAVE YOUR SHOES OUTSIDE THE DOOR

Upon arriving at your job, please remove your shoes outside the door and leave them there until you leave again.

SANITIZE HIGH-TOUCH AREAS UPON ARRIVAL AND THROUGHOUT THE DAY

Bring or ask for a sanitizing wipe to thoroughly wipe down the door handles both in and outside upon entering and promptly throw it in the trash can. Continue to sanitize high- touch areas throughout the day, such as frequently used door knobs, light switches, remotes, facuet handles, trash can lids, and table tops.

WASH YOUR HANDS IN THE KITCHEN SINK UPON ARRIVAL

After taking your shoes off outside the home and wiping down the door handles, proceed directly to the kitchen to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. This prevents you from accidentally touching interior door handles before cleaning your hands. You can say hi to everyone and continue to chat while showing them how important personal hygiene is and how seriously you are taking everything at this time!

WASH HANDS BEFORE & AFTER FOOD PREP

Wash your hands in the kitchen sink before and after any food prep with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

WASH CHILDREN'S HANDS BEFORE THEY EAT

Help the children wash their hands before and after any snacks or meals. You can do this together while singing a song and teaching them good hygiene habits! Germs are easily transmitted during mealtimes, so be diligent while eating with children and make sure adequate hygiene habits are strictly adhered to.

By accepting employment opportunities through Smart Sitting, you agree to follow the health and safety practices outlined above. If anything changes about your ability to comply with the above requirements, please immediately contact us at 646-396-0230 or team@smartsitting.com.
