Smart Sitting Caregiver Policies: Things to Remember! (Part 3)

All good things come in threes! Which means we’re back for Caregiver Policies: Part 3 of 3! You can find the previous parts here and here!

MILD NON-URGENT INJURY

If a child gets a mild injury such as a cut or scrape which does not require professional medical attention while under your care, first attend to the child and secondly, send the parent a text message letting them know that there has been a minor injury, what you did to take care of it, how the child is doing, and what the mark looks like. Then ask if there is anything else they’d like you to do.

DON'T BE LATE, EVER!

Always leave earlier than necessary. Assume the subway will stop running (they will) or that there will be a sick passenger (there always is) and expect that you could be delayed up to 30 minutes every day. The longer the commute, the more likely you are to experience mass transit delays. Hey, at least you're avoiding auto-insurance and parking costs! If you are running late, notify the family as far in advance possible, apologize, and give them the estimated arrival time.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Finding amazing babysitters & nannies like you takes time & background checks are expensive!
For that reason, if a Smart Sitting family shares your contact info with a friend & you work with them, you must record those hours under the timesheet of the Smart Sitting family who connected you to them. Yikes, that’s awkward! Yep. It is!

We are all nice & reasonable people over, & we want to help you avoid a strange situation like that transpiring. So here's what you do!

Be transparent with both families about the rules right away, & refer the new family
to Smart Sitting. We’ll send you a monetary bonus AND give the family a monetary credit! We promise to always check with you about jobs with that family before scheduling
any other babysitters, so you get dibs!

DRESS CODE

Families appreciate a comfortable, tidy, and conservative work attire. Pick a short or long sleeve shirt or sweater that is neutral or dark in color (this hides messiness or stains you may acquire while with kids), jeans without holes or comfortable shorts or pants (avoid tights or athletic wear), and shoes that you are comfortable moving around in. For interviews, we recommend casual-professional. Always avoid elaborate jewelry and scented body products. If you’re not 100% sure about something, don’t wear it!

TRUE EMERGENCY

In case of a true emergency, first dial 911, then contact the family, & then contact Smart Sitting.
