The Ultimate Sick Day

It’s still that time of year! Coughs, colds and sniffles are in the air, and we all know kids are extra good at sharing those germs with each other.

Whether your little one is feverish, contagious, or just not feeling up to school, SmartSitting can always book you a last-minute babysitter to come to the rescue!

And if you need some tips on pampering your little patient (or giving your babysitter some ideas), check out our guide to the Ultimate Sick Day below.

  • Build the best fort ever! You can get creative with blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, and chairs. If you’re feeling extra ambitious, follow this official guide to building an amazing blanket fort!

  • Have an indoor picnic on the floor! For inspiration, try this sandwich bouquet  or one of these homemade popsicles.

  • Make a homemade spa! Indulge your little one with face masks (try this homemade recipe), manicures, pedicures, or aromatherapy. If they’re congested, try the old fashioned steam pot method. And if you’re really feeling brave, let them give you a custom hairstyle!

  • Read out loud! Since you have all day, you might even be able to get through a whole book! If you’re not feeling up to reading yourself, you can also download some great audiobooks.

  • Print out your own do-it-yourself coloring book! You can do a custom search online, or check out websites like http://www.supercoloring.com/

  • Look at old photos! How often is it that you get the chance to walk down memory lane? Show your kids photos from when they were babies, or even pictures from your own childhood (warning: prepare to be teased for those fashion and hairstyle choices!)

  • Forget the Lego movies - pull out some of your own childhood favorites to share with your kids!  Some of our old favorites are The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music, and Pollyanna.

  • Pull out a good old fashioned jigsaw puzzle, or your child’s favorite board game! If you have a deck of cards, try blowing their minds with this card trick.

  • Start planning your next trip or adventure, so the kids have something to look forward to when they’re all better!

Our babysitters are always ready with their own sick day activities and ideas as well. Keep our Online Booking Form bookmarked, so you always have it ready for any last-minute sick-day requests! Remember to include any symptoms your child is exhibiting in the ‘Additional Information’ section of the form, so we can be sure the sitter knows what to expect (fever, cough, runny nose, etc.). We’ll be here, ready to spring into action when you need us and hope your little one is back up and running very soon!
